Teaching Artists: Cello and Violin

The Music Academy is excited to announce a new pilot program intended to ensure equitable access to a high-quality strings music education. Our Connections program will provide a free afterschool music program at Constance Lane Elementary School and serve students in 2nd- 5th grade. Maximum of 30 students. Program includes instrument, small group instruction, large ensemble time, teambuilding/homework time for students, and snack.

Teaching Artists will work closely with and report to the program director in following through with an engaging and effective curriculum. They will take a critical role in shaping the quality and tone of the overall program.

Teaching Artists ensure the highest quality experience for each student. They will serve as instructor, mentor, and positive adult figure in each child’s life and holistically support every student. They understand the Suzuki philosophy that Every Child Can and will work to find ways to best serve each child musically, behaviorally, and social-emotionally.

Early Childhood Music Teacher

The Music Academy seeks a qualified Early Childhood Music Teacher to teach Music Academy Early Childhood Classes (Prelude Classes) and teach at partner locations in Rockford. Qualifications include pedagogical knowledge of Early Childhood Music Methods such as KinderMusic, Music Together, Suzuki Early Childhood Education, or equivalent. Additional qualifications include the ability to work independently and collaboratively and cultivate an excellent rapport with students and families. This position will work closely with the Strings Program Director, Piano Program Director, and Executive Director to plan events that enrich the lives of Music Academy families and the greater community.

The Music Academy in Rockford currently offers up to five Prelude Classes each semester for children and families ages 6 months- 5 years with the opportunity to grow. In the past three years our Prelude classes have grown from one class each semester to five. Our affordable classes ensure that our education is accessible to most in our community. We additionally partner with UW Health Early Learning Center and the Harlem Prevention Initiative to further increase our reach in the community.

Studio Piano Instructor

The Music Academy seeks a qualified Studio Piano Teacher to teach piano lessons at The Music Academy in Rockford. Qualifications include the ability to work independently and collaboratively, cultivate an excellent rapport with students and families, and experience/knowledge of piano pedagogical methods. This position will work closely with the Strings Program Director, Piano Program Director, and Executive Director to plan events that enrich the lives of Music Academy families and the greater community.

The Music Academy in Rockford currently serves over 500 families per year in the Rockford Region through private lessons, partner programs, and early childhood classes. Our piano program serves both traditional and Suzuki students and offers a comprehensive Suzuki Program including theory classes, group lessons, and piano ensemble.
